The only disadvantage of CenturyLink is that the DSL speeds vary a lot. The speed differs depending on location. Sometimes the speed also falls below what has been deemed as broadband as per the FCC. The plan selection of CenturyLink is also limited and is based on the location you are residing in.

CenturyLink offers internal to its customers by using two different methods: the fibre optic Internet service and digital subscriber line. The fibre-optic Internet service is much faster than the DSL connection. Therefore, if you are living in a region where fibre-optic service is available, you should opt for the fibre-optic service. Currently, fibre Internet is available in 25 out of the 37 states where CenturyLink is active. Therefore, all the customers can’t avail of the fibre option, but go for it if it is available at your location.

The problem with CenturyLink is that despite having so many plans, most of them are not available at all addresses. In some areas, only one choice is available. In others, there may be a few.

If you see the fibre prices of CenturyLink Internet, you will notice that the prices are fairly low compared to all the other Gigabit offerings from Cox, Comcast, or spectrum.

The DSL plan leaves much to be desired.

The fibre plans offer symmetrical upload and download speed. This means you can perform better at work and have no glitchy frame in FaceTime or zoom calls. However, the problem is that if you are using the DSL service or if only the DSL service is available at your location, it is way behind fibre in both performances and speed.

Like the other ISP’s, Xfinity, Verizon, spectrum, etc., CenturyLink also has the option to avoid renting out the modem from the company by using their own devices. Ensure that your device is compatible with the CenturyLink Internet. You can check this by visiting their site and looking at the list of CenturyLink compatible modem devices. However, if you decide to use your equipment, you will not be able to avail yourself of CenturyLink’s free 24/7 tech support.

Even though CenturyLink does not impose any self-installation charges, every address does not fall under this category. There are certain locations where CenturyLink bills an additional $99 as professional installation charges. In some cases, the fee goes up to $125. Therefore, be careful. Contact customer care, find out the details and then subscribe to CenturyLink Internet.
